James Armer Stolpestad

A fourth-generation Minnesotan, James Armer Stolpestad has a varied background as a lawyer, real estate developer, civic leader, and published author. His previous written works include Custom House: Restoring a St. Paul Landmark in Lowertown, which received an Award of Merit from the American Association of State and Local History in 2016 and other recognitions.

He began his career as an attorney with the U. S. Department of Housing & Urban Development before serving as a Minnesota Special Assistant Attorney General. He then co-founded a successful local law practice that later merged into a large national law firm. By 1992 he had started what became the award-winning Exeter commercial real estate development business that has many landmark projects in the Twin Cities to its credit.

He was educated at the University of Minnesota with a Diploma from its preparatory school, a Bachelor of Arts Degree with honors in History from its College of Liberal Arts, and a Juris Doctor Degree from its Law School. Recognized as an Alumni of Notable Achievement, he has held civic leadership positions over the years and is now retired from the Exeter business. He and his wife live in the Twin Cities.
